Updated: Jul 26

As a local photographer in London, Ontario, I’ve explored so many beautiful places for photo sessions like trails, parks, conservation areas you name it. But there are a few that have become my favourites. These locations have consistently given me stunning light, relaxed clients, and images I’m proud to share. They’re accessible, versatile, and beautiful in every season. So if you’re planning a shoot and wondering where to go, here are my top 3 favourite outdoor photography spots in London, Ontario based on real sessions, real people, and real moments captured through my lens.

1. Civic Garden Complex – Best for Family & Seasonal Portraits

The Civic Garden Complex is one of the most requested photo locations in London and it's easy to see why. The grounds are full of vibrant flower beds, winding pathways, a charming arched bridge, and plenty of green space to work with. It offers a clean, polished look that’s perfect for families, couples, and seasonal sessions.

I’ve had the chance to shoot everything here from small weddings and maternity portraits to family and pet sessions. Each time, the light and space offer something different. In one session, a bride and groom walked toward the bridge with soft summer light behind them classic and romantic. In another, a mom and daughter played in a pile of autumn leaves, sharing genuine laughter. And one of my favourite winter sessions was with this couple wrapped in warm sweaters, sitting close together in the woods. The light was soft, the trees were bare, and everything about the moment felt peaceful and connected.

2. Westminster Ponds / Pond Mills Conservation Area – Best for Maternity & Nature Photography

Westminster Ponds in the Pond Mills area is one of my favourite places for soft, natural, and emotionally warm photo sessions. The trails are lined with tall grass, the trees catch golden hour beautifully, and the pond creates a quiet, reflective backdrop.

One memorable session here was with a returning family, mom was expecting their second child, so we combined maternity and family portraits into one relaxed shoot. She sat peacefully near the water while her little one explored the nearby path. Later, her husband lifted their toddler into the air, all against the golden trees. The result was a gallery full of warmth, movement and real connection.

3. Ivey Park – Best for Urban Green Space & River Views

If you're looking for a spot that combines floral backdrops with urban energy, Ivey Park is the best for that. Located right downtown near the Forks of the Thames, it’s great for anyone wanting an easy-to-reach location with both natural charm and city vibes. The park is filled with flower beds, benches, winding paths, and views of the river simply perfect for casual portraits or styled shoots.

One fun shoot here was with two friends dressed in traditional Indian saris, laughing, twirling, and sitting among the flowers. It was colourful and full of joy. Another session was a simple Eid portrait, where the client wanted to highlight her beautiful outfit. The setting was clean and elegant, letting the details shine. These sessions show how Ivey Park can work for both personal and professional portraits.

Final Thoughts

These three outdoor locations are more than just pretty spots and they’ve each become part of stories I’ve helped tell through photography. Whether it’s a quiet moment by the water, a joyful family hug, or a radiant maternity glow, these places offer more than a background. They support genuine moments, natural emotion, and timeless photos. If you’re looking for a location in London, Ontario for your next session, these are excellent starting points and of course, I’m always open to discovering new favourite spots together.
